Dr Axel de Vooght, Plastic Surgeon in Brussels

Dr Axel de Vooght is a plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgeon practising in Brussels. His work focuses on facial surgery, skin cancer surgery and breast surgery — three fields where an aesthetic eye and reconstructive rigour come together.

Training and Credentials

After completing medical school at the University of Louvain (UCL), Dr de Vooght specialised in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery at the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussels. He further trained at the Inselspital — University Hospital of Bern (Switzerland) and completed an advanced fellowship in craniofacial and facial plastic surgery at the Marchac Institute in Paris, with Dr Daniel Marchac, a plastic surgeon recognised worldwide as a pioneer of craniofacial surgery and a leading authority on facial rejuvenation. He holds the European Board Diploma in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS).

Areas of Expertise

  • Facial plastic surgery: deep-plane facelift, rhinoplasty (open, closed and ultrasonic depending on the indication), blepharoplasty, oculoplastic surgery, otoplasty.
  • Facial skin cancer surgery: basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, melanomas, reconstruction with local flaps and skin grafts.
  • Breast surgery: implant-based reconstruction after mastectomy, augmentation, mastopexy (lift), reduction, asymmetry correction.
  • Body contouring: lipoabdominoplasty.

Practice Locations in Brussels

Dr de Vooght practises independently at three locations in Brussels: Delta Hospital (CHIREC) in Auderghem — his main surgical site; Edith Cavell Medical Centre (CHIREC) in Uccle, where day-surgery activity will also begin in October 2026; and The Skin Practice in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, where he consults alongside dermatologists. This three-site network supports full hospital-based care (surgery under general anaesthesia, hospitalisation, structured follow-up), a day-surgery pathway in the south of Brussels, and a private clinic environment for consultations, office-based procedures and aesthetic treatments.

Surgical Philosophy

Dr de Vooght advocates discreet, long-lasting surgery that restores or improves without altering identity. Every project begins with a thorough consultation, sometimes complemented by Crisalix 3D simulation, to align patient expectations with what surgery can realistically deliver. Safety, transparency about risks and rigorous long-term follow-up are the pillars of his practice.

Revision Plastic Surgery and Continuity of Care

When a patient consults for revision plastic surgery — meaning after a procedure already performed elsewhere — Dr de Vooght approaches the situation with extreme caution. A prior operation intrinsically alters the anatomical starting point: dissection planes, vascularity and scar tissue no longer behave like virgin tissue, which complicates the natural course of recovery and makes any outcome harder to predict. This is especially true in rhinoplasty. An assessment and a second opinion are always possible; surgical indications for revision, however, are set with great restraint, after an in-depth consultation, standardised photographs and, when needed, a deliberate reflection period. It is not uncommon that the conclusion is to refrain from operating again. Consistently with this approach, Dr de Vooght does not provide follow-up for surgery performed elsewhere — in particular for cases of surgical tourism. His practice prioritises comprehensive, continuous care, from the initial consultation through to long-term follow-up. In the event of an acute complication (bleeding, infection, emergency), patients must contact their original surgeon or an emergency department.
