Gynaecomastia: Male Chest Surgery

Gynaecomastia is the abnormal development of male breast tissue. It can be glandular, fatty (adipomastia) or mixed and most often appears at adolescence, after medication or in connection with hormonal imbalance. Beyond the aesthetic concern, it has a real psychological impact.

Surgical Treatment

  • Glandular gynaecomastia: targeted excision through a periareolar incision.
  • Mixed gynaecomastia: glandular excision complemented by remodelling of the adjacent tissues.
  • Very large volume with skin excess: technique with associated skin resection.
  • Pre-operative work-up to rule out a hormonal or drug-related cause that should be addressed in parallel.

Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia, as an outpatient or with one overnight stay. A compression vest is worn for 4 to 6 weeks — essential for skin retraction and quality of result.
