Adult Otoplasty: Correction of Protruding Ears

Otoplasty corrects protruding ears, absent cartilage folds or asymmetry of the auricle. Dr de Vooght performs otoplasty exclusively in adult patients; younger patients are referred to pediatric specialists.

Surgery takes about 1.5 hours under local anaesthesia, as an outpatient. A headband is worn continuously for the first week, then at night for 4 to 6 weeks. The scar, hidden in the retroauricular fold, becomes nearly invisible.

Otoplasty often delivers an immediate psychological benefit: refining the auricular contour relieves a discomfort sometimes carried since childhood, without altering the facial identity.
