Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction
After breast cancer, breast reconstruction is an integral part of the care pathway. Dr de Vooght has recognised expertise in implant-based reconstruction (with or without acellular dermal matrix), whether immediate (at the time of mastectomy) or delayed (after completion of oncological treatments).
Available Techniques
- Immediate prepectoral reconstruction with a definitive implant (when anatomy allows).
- Two-stage reconstruction: tissue expander followed by definitive implant.
- Implant + acellular dermal matrix (ADM) for improved support and a more natural appearance.
- Contralateral breast symmetrisation (lift, reduction or augmentation).
- Secondary lipofilling to correct irregularities and improve skin coverage.
Immediate or Delayed Reconstruction?
When oncological context and skin status allow, immediate reconstruction provides a major psychological benefit — the patient wakes without breast loss. Delayed reconstruction remains fully indicated after radiotherapy or when oncological certainty is needed, allowing serene planning with the patient.
Follow-up is multidisciplinary, in close coordination with breast surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists and specialist nurses. The choice between implant-based, autologous or combined reconstruction is discussed openly during consultation, in light of the oncological pathway, morphology and the patient’s preferences.
